Vision Screening Children
US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation

The USPSTF recommends screening to detect amblyopia, strabismus, and defects in visual acuity in children younger than age 5 years.

Rating:
"B" Recommendation

FACTS:

  • About 3% of preschoolers have visual impairments,1 a portion of which would remain undetected at school age without screening.

  • Screening and treatment are inexpensive and improve quality of life.
